Krippner points are awarded to each member of a Den, then averaged to get the Den score. Attendance points are based upon the official roster with absent members counting as zero points in the average. The competition begins in October as Den Dads fill out Krippner report sheets monthly and turn them in to the Krippner Award Chairman at the first Pack Meeting of the following month. Any points earned by a Cub who drops out do not count for the competition period during which he drops out. The points he earned during previous competition periods are still valid.

There are three Krippner Den competitions during the Cub Scout year. The winner of the Oct/Nov/Dec competition is announced in January. The winner of the Jan/Feb/Mar competition is announced in April. And the winner of the Apr/May/Jun competition is announced at the Family Picnic in June. Each Cub in the winning Den will receive $5 towards a pizza party, Funplex, etc.

Then, all the points for the year are totaled and each boy in the Den with the highest point average receives a $10 REI gift certificate. The Cub with the highest point total for the year earns the honor to have his name engraved on the Krippner trophy. The winning Cub may keep the Krippner trophy until a new winner is announced next year.
